By Mike Crismundo BUTUAN CITY – The Manobo tribe story, presented by the Trento National High School from Agusan del Sur province, was chosen as this year’s Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) regional 2019 Best Documentary Film awardee. Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM / MANILA BULLETIN) This was announced by Regional Director Alexander A. Makinano of the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM), on Thursday. The film features the life of the Manobo tribe in Agusan Marsh, Agusan del Sur in a film titled ‘Bugsay’ (paddle). ‘Bugsay’ narrates the story of the Manobo tribe, who despite being in a remote situation, thrives in floating houses, he said. The video cited the challenges of the tribe, one of them access to primary education. The documentary follows the routine of Manobo children paddling from their respective floating homes to the floating school. The pupils paddle their own boats, putting their lives at risk as there are also crocodiles in the water, the same swamp forest where Lolong, the largest crocodile recorded in the world, was discovered. Behind the making of the winning film are King Symond Ragosta, James Angelo Diango, Kenneth John Medino, Cindy Anno, and Ronel Abella, who served as coach. ‘Paglaum’ from Caraga Regional Science High School came second, and Bayugan National Comprehensive High School’s ‘Hipos’ is third. The national competition will be held at the POPCOM Central Office Manila at the end of the month, Director Makinano added.
