Due to oversupply, sayote now sells at P2/kilo in Baguio

By Gabriela Baron The price of sayote in Baguio City dropped to as low as P2 per kilo due to the oversupply of the crop coming from Benguet province. "They are currently being bought at P2/kg by middlemen. The farmers still have tons of sayote to harvest," said Tagani Philippines in a Facebook post. Lettuce, which was previously priced at P80-P100 per kilo, is now being sold at P15 per kilo. With the prices so low, farmers can no longer afford to transport the vegetables to the markets and are instead using tons of vegetables as fertilizers. Online agriculture shops are urging consumers to buy sayote at P180 per 10 kilos.
