Son of former mayor shot in Samar jail

By Marie Tonette Marticio TACLOBAN CITY - The son of former San Jorge, Samar Mayors Joseph and Nancy Grey, was shot inside the Samar Provincial Jail in Catbalogan City, Samar on Thursday, November 7.

(PIXABAY / MANILA BULLETIN) Francis Grey, who was charged for the murder of a village chairman in San Jorge town,Â sustained a gunshot wound in his abdomen and was immediately brought to Samar Provincial Hospital for treatment. Initial investigation showed that at around 8:10 a.m., PG1 Angelo Figueroa who was about to take charge of the Tower Guard Station of the provincial custodial facility was reportedly assaulted by inmate Grey without any reason. Grey allegedly attempted to get the issued short firearm of the prison guard that was tucked on the right side of his waist. This led to a scuffle causing Figueroa to suffer injuries.Â Figueroa deaw his handgun and shot Grey twice. Grey who was arrested in Imus, Cavite last year, was previously under the custody of Calbayog City District Jail but he filed a request that he be transferred to the custody of the Samar Provincial Jail for his safety. During his arrest, he implicated several politicians in the first district of Samar who are allegedly involved in various killings and illegal drug trade in the province. PG1 Figueroa was placed under the custody of his warden before he was brought to Catbalogan City Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. (Marie Tonette Marticio)
