Two Philippine coffee firms received awards at the 5th International Contest of Locally Roasted Coffees held in Milan, on October 21.
The Mirabueno Coffee harvested in Bukidnon and SGD Coffee grown in Northern Sagada received the awards: Gourmet (puissant doux category) and Bronze (rond equilibre category) prizes, awarded by the Agence pour la Valorisation des Produits Agricoles (AVPA).
They bested more than 700 producers from around the world, participate in AVPA contests every year.
Chargé d’Affaires Mersole J. Mellejor of the Philippine Consul General’s Office in Milan received the award in behalf of Mirabueno Coffee and Sagada Coffee.
Last 2017, SGD Coffee bagged the first Gourmet Award for Philippine coffee in the 3rd AVPA Awards.
AVPA is a Paris-based “non-governmental, non-profit organization, mainly composed of producers and taste enthusiasts.”
“The association’s goal is to enhance the value of agricultural products and to recognize the excellence of some producers, too often forgotten in the midst of mass marketing,” a Facebook post from the Department of Tourism (DOT) read.
The Mirabueno Coffee and Sagada Coffee are part of The Coffee Heritage Project (TCHP) in the Philippines. “It is a non-profit private initiative which takes quality-focused approaches in coffee production,” the Facebook post further read.
