Napolcom, Sec. Año to submit list of PNP Chief candidates to Duterte

By Chito Chavez  Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said he will submit the list of contenders for the top Philippine National Police (PNP) post to the President not later than October 20. After conferring with the President, Año explained the Commission’s recommendation will be submitted to him on or before October 20. “Sa batas kasi (Under the law), Napolcom, will have to submit and I’m the chairman of Napolcom,” said Año. However, the DILG chief clarified the NAPOLCOM will only submit its recommendation with the President having the last say on whom to pick as the next PNP chief. To explain further, Año maintained it is also within the authority of the President to not choose a PNP chief from the list of NAPOLCOM recommendation. Outgoing PNP chief Police General Oscar Albayalde is slated to retire on November 8, 2019. Earlier, Albayalde said his possible successors for the top PNP post include National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar; PNP operations chief Deputy Director General Archie Francisco Gamboa and PNP Directorial Staff chief Police Lieutenant General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan.
