A huge canopy was set up at the public park in front of the City Hall for vendors selling flowers and candles.
The prices of flowers ranged from P200 to P2000, according to the vendors.
Pre-arranged flowers are sold at P1000 to P2000. The customers also have the option to choose the kind of flowers for the arrangement.
A couple of vendors told the Manila Bulletin that the public should expect prices to soar as the demand for flowers increase hours before “Undas.”
Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro conducted an inspection of the stalls selling flowers and candles in the park Thursday morning.
The city government earlier prohibited vendors from plying their trade along roads and sidewalks to avoid traffic congestion.
Councilor Manny Sarmiento, head of this year’s “Oplan Undas” task force, said vendors will be allowed only in designated areas near cemeteries.
“We have already coordinated with barangay officials to prohibit vendors on roads and sidewalks,” he said.
