A total of 87 customs police belonging to AGILA Class 2019 of the Customs Training Institute graduated Monday after the six-month basic course designed to enable the security officers to gain an in-depth understanding of their mandated duties and responsibilities.
Officers namely Lady Claire Adorico, Archer Peniza, Abdurahman Ampaso, Jielene Kely Espera and Amil Rafsanjanni Basman topped the AGILA Class 2019 which stood for “Alagad ng Gobyerno na Iaalay ang Lahat para sa Aduana.”
According to the bureau, the course covers general discussion on the much-needed knowledge, competencies, and skills of Special Agents in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities following the provisions of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and allied laws, rules and regulations.
The training was conducted by the Customs-Interim Training and Development Division (ITDD) and the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS). Aside from seminars, the customs police also underwent actual training on pistol and rifle marksmanship, close-quarter battle and agent survival training.
During the graduation ceremony held Monday, Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero emphasized that “part of the bureau’s 10-Point Priority Program is to increase the manpower efficiency by getting the right people that will help the bureau pursue its reform agenda by strictly following the rules, implementing the policies and maintaining the highest standards of discipline, excellence, and integrity.”
The security officers were reminded of their significant role as frontline personnel of the Customs bureau in ensuring and keeping its integrity, as well as in fulfilling its mission to protect the border against smuggled goods and other contraband.
