The prospects of engaging in business after retirement has been opened for members of Makati City Police through the help of the University of Makati and JC Binay Foundation Inc.
Makati Mayor Abigail Binay, acting president of the University of Makati (UMak), led the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Makati Police and JC Binay Foundation Inc. at the Makati city hall.
Signed by the mayor together with P/Col. Rogelio P. Simon, representing the Makati Police , and Ambrosio L. Mana-ay, treasurer of the JCBF, the MOU aims to provide sustainable livelihood programs and training to retired members of the police force.
Under the MOU, UMak, as part of its social extension service, shall develop and implement a livelihood and entrepreneurship program for selected Makati police retirees who could come up with viable business proposals.
Binay said it warmed her heart to present the customized curriculum to train the retirees from PNP and give them a better chance to succeed in the business they wish to engage in.
“It is an honor for our city to be given the opportunity to help PNP retirees through this project, which is the first of its kind in the country. This is also the first time in the history of UMak that we have opened our doors for a partnership with the city’s law enforcers,” Binay said.
“The PNP, UMak, and JCBF have created a framework of cooperation and partnership to create livelihood training and developmental programs for an effective and sustainable post-retirement economic plan for Philippine National Police (PNP) Makati personnel. We want to make sure that we are able to give back to our law enforcers for their hard work in keeping the city safe,” she added.
The Makati PNP shall identify retiring personnel among their ranks who are potential candidates based on eligibility protocols drafted for the program. These candidates shall then be interviewed and assessed by the University of Makati.
The JC Binay Foundation Inc. shall then evaluate the UMak-recommended business proposals from the training program as basis for the granting of a loan to fund the implementation and sustainability of the approved project. It will issue a clear-cut policy on the loan payment, which agreement shall be executed between the foundation and the retiree.
For Makati PNP to qualify, they should have been assigned for at least three years in Makati City Police Stations at the effectivity of the retirement; of good moral character; and must be willing to undergo the “Individualized Training Program,” which includes family members.
Every participant has four mandatory courses that they have to complete in three weeks: Financial Management, Marketing, Operations Management, and Entrepreneurship.
Each class will have a maximum of nine class hours. In the fourth week, a comprehensive paper presentation shall be made, which will be paneled by members of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
