BACOLOD CITY – A 21-year-old magna cum laude tourism graduate of the La Consolacion College (LCC) here, survived her seventh pageant as she got her first crown as the Ruby MassKara Queen during the 40th celebration of the MassKara Festival this year.

The Philippines’s first Ms. Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, along with Mayor Evelio Leonardia, wife Elsa Leonardia, and MassKara Queen 2018 Ella Mercado, crowned Trecia Tuquero during the pageant and coronation night held at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central here last October 23.
Tuquero also bagged the best in festival costume award, showcasing the famous San Sebastian Cathedral here.
Tuquero, a resident of Barangay 36, has an advocacy of teaching the youth to love themselves, value their education, and be a role model of resilience.
She has joined several pageants in the past and had been hailed as the first runner-up in Mutya ng Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural and Educational Association (Nopsscea) in 2017, and second runner-up in Mutya ng Pilipinas Negros Island Region (NIR) in the same year.
Tuquero, during a media interview after the pageant, said she was very happy.
“I did not expect the results, but God knows my sacrifices, and I owe this to him,” she added.
She also thanked her family and friends who inspired her to continue pursuing her dreams, and for supporting her all the way.
Meanwhile, Chaira Victoria Juarez , 18, of Brgy. Singcang-Airport, a Grade 12 student, won first runner-up, while Vina Marie Peña, 20, of Brgy. Granada, a fourth year college student taking up Bachelor of Science in Office Administration, placed second runner-up.
Other candidates include Christine Mendoza, Roem Alcaen, Moira Maci Abesamis, Andrea Sagario, Chainee May Ang, Janine Cabrillos, and crowd’s favorite Queenie Edessa Amarante.
Aside from Diaz, the Board of Judges included celebrity columnist Tessa Prieto-Valdes, image consultant Jojie Dingcong, Col. Roderick Augustus Alba, chief of staff of Information Technology Management Service of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame, and Globe Telecom director for external affairs for Visayas and Mindanao Patrick Gloria.
