(OPS / MANILA BULLETIN) “The world has spoken: It is truly more fun in the Philippines,” Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said. “We thank the readers of Conde Nast Traveler for making the Philippines 8th in their list of favorite countries in the world,” he added. In the annual report by the US-based travel magazine, the Philippines has been named one of the top 20 favorite countries by travelers. The Philippines obtained a score of 90.63 in the list that was topped by Indonesia with 92.78 points. The Philippines is more popular than Italy, Vietnam, Turkey, Japan, Mexico, Tanzania, Israel, Colombia, New Zealand, Ireland, Cambodia, and Croatia. Thailand, Portugal, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Peru and Greece, however, ranked higher than the Philippines in the list of favorite countries. Panelo, meantime, lauded the Department of Tourism (DOT) and concerned stakeholders for efficiently promoting the country as a tourist destination. He noted that the latest recognition comes following the two major awards the Philippines won at the recent 2019 World Travel Awards in Vietnam. “We commend the Department of Tourism, their industry partners and other stakeholders for their splendid job,” Panelo said. “In its most recent report, the DOT counted a total of 5,554,950 visitors between January and August 2019. On top of this, the Philippines registered a 14.08 percent year-on-year increase in the country’s international inbound traffic,” he added.
