“This is part of our steadfast commitment to provide Navoteños with the best service they deserve. We hope this will empower them and help them improve their quality of life,” Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco said in a statement.
“May this inspire us more to continuously improve our services and think of ways to help our constituents, especially those who have less in life,” he added.
Dr. Christia Padolina, NCH director, together with Dr. Spica Mendoza-Acoba and Dr. Liberty Domingo, received the award during the PhilHealth Regional Office’s Local Government Unit Executive Forum and Recognition.
PhilHealth cited NCH’s contributions to the city health sector, including the enrollment of 2,000 families in the National Health Insurance Program and the distribution of Navotas Hospitalization Program (NHP) cards with a supplementary amount of P5,000, both under Tiangco’s administration in 2005.
In 2011, the hospitalization subsidy in the city increased to P25,000. The local government also partnered with more hospitals, including Dr. Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Metropolitan Medical Center, and Valenzuela Medical Center.
The construction of the NCH extension began in 2018, which doubled the hospital’s bed capacity from when it started with only a 50-bed capacity in 2015.
PhilHealth also recognized the city government for building more health centers, including the Malasakit Center at NCH and the Navotas Wellness and Medical Center, to cater to residents’ medical needs
Meanwhile, the Caloocan City local government was also recognized for being a “strong partner in sponsored enrollment.”
Dr. Maybelle Sison, Caloocan City health officer, Dr. Fernando Santos, Caloocan City Medical Center administrator, and Dr. Evelyn Cuevas, Caloocan City North Medical Center director, accepted the award during the Strengthening Local Health Governance for Universal Health Care event at the New World Manila Bay Hotel.
