The Quezon City Task Force on Solid Waste Collection, Cleaning, and Disposal Services Management has recognized 30 barangays for their strict and consistent adherence to the city’s solid waste management program aside from initiating their own efficient and systematic waste management practices.

Those accorded with accolades for being Best Barangay with Ecological Solid Waste Management Program were Talayan, Philam, Sto. Cristo, Holy Spirit, Commonwealth, Batasan Hills, Blue Ridge A, Blue Ridge B, St. Ignatius, Paligsahan, Pinagkaisahan, Mariana, San Bartolome, Kaligayahan and Culiat.
Meanwhile, the barangays cited for strict enforcement of the City’s Mandatory Waste Segregation at Source policy were: Barangays West Triangle, Nayong Kanluran, Milagrosa, Escopa IV, Dona Aurora, Valencia, Santol, Bagbag, Greater Lagro and Talipapa.
These barangays were able to ensure that households and commercial establishments within their jurisdiction were compliant in sorting out residual, biodegradable and recyclable wastes.
Mayor Joy Belmonte also commended the following barangays for practicing exceptional solid waste management practices:
Barangay Bagumbuhay – Charcoal Briquetting from Yard Wastes and Bricks from Residual Plastic Waste
Laging Handa, Sikatuna Village, and Horseshoe – Kitchen Waste Collection
Novaliches Proper – Buko Waste Processing and Vermicomposting
Task Force on Solid Waste Management Action Officer Richard Santuile said these barangays have taken on the full responsibility of keeping their communities clean and the city expressed its appreciation by giving them these small tokens of recognition.
The Quezon City government is one of the few local government units in the country that is consistently recognized by various organizations and national government agencies for its exemplary implementation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
In 2018, the city ranked first among all local government units in Metro Manila in the LGU compliance assessment of the Manila Bay Clean-up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program with an overall average of 95.53 percent.
QC was also named as the 2015 Eco Champion under the National LGU Eco-Champions Project of Green Convergence and Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for complying with environmental laws.
