Mayor Vico taps Eat Bulaga for polio vaccination campaign

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto tapped noontime show Eat Bulaga to urge parents to have their children vaccinated against polio.

Magpapatak tayo kontra polio,” said Sotto in a video footage of the variety show’s “Juan for All, All for One” segment he shared over the weekend. Eat Bulaga’s long-time host and Vico’s father, Vic Sotto, was also seen in the video watching his son emerge from a jubilant crowd waving at the camera to promote Pasig City’s campaign against polio. In a Facebook post that accompanied the video, the mayor said parents of children below five years old should visit barangay health centers near them to avail of the free anti-polio vaccine. “May mahigit 30 teams din tayo ng mga health worker na nagbabahay-bahay o naka-istasyon sa mga matataong lugar katulad ng Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral kapag Linggo (We also have over 30 teams composed of health workers that conduct house-to-house vaccination, or stationed in crowded areas such as the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral during Sundays),” Sotto said. “Sa ngayon ay nasa 53% na tayo ng target natin. Medyo mababa ang rate natin nung nagsimula tayo, pero mabilis natin itong napapataas (We are now at 53 percent of our target. Our rate was quite slow when we began the vaccination, but we rapidly increased it),” the 30-year-old mayor said. He also said the city government will reach 80 to 90 percent of its target number of children vaccinated by this week. Sotto thanked Eat Bulaga for allowing the city government to promote the campaign when the show was shooting its segment in Barangay Santolan, Pasig last week. He also expressed gratitude to the officials of the Department of Health and Barangay Santolan officials led by Chairman Echie Ramos. “Tuluyan na nating wakasan ang polio sa ating bansa (Let us end the spread of polio in the country). #EndPolioNow #MagpapatakNa!” Sotto said. Sotto lamented that they are having difficulties in reaching those who live in condominiums and gated subdivisions. “If you have kids from 0-59 months old, please make sure they have had the anti-polio vaccine. You can visit our health centers, your private doctor, or be on the lookout for on-site vaccination stations,” he advised.
