DOT, Smart to provide free Wi-Fi in key areas of Intramuros, Rizal Park

By Analou De Vera The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Friday entered into a partnership with Smart Communications for the roll-out of free Wi-Fi services in key areas in the Walled City of Intramuros and Rizal Park in Manila. (DOT/ FACEBOOK/ MANILA BULLETIN) (DOT/ FACEBOOK/ MANILA BULLETIN) Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the agreement "solidifies the strong partnerships the DOT is forging with the private sector, as we align toward a common goal—the creation of better value and travel experiences for all." The areas that will be covered by the free Wi-Fi services include Plaza Dilao, Casa Manila, Museo De Intramuros, Plaza Roma, Fort Santiago, and Luneta, the DOT said. "Here, we are enhancing connectivity and accessibility, two important buzz words that will enable the DOT to realize even greater contributions to our economy," said Puyat. "As Intramuros and Rizal Park get connected to the digital world, we ensure that our visitors’ experience is enhanced not only by greater connectivity, but also by making information that will be of interest to them easily accessible," added the tourism chief. "Through this, we hope they can be convinced to perhaps stay a little bit more and truly enjoy the rest of our unique and wonderful country," she furthered. Puyat said that tourism was "an important driver of economic growth." The tourism chief also acknowledged the support of stakeholders in the private sector and the local government units in the implementation of its "sustainable development programs."
