DAVAO CITY – A survey conducted by the Institute of Popular Opinion of the University of Mindanao (UM) showed that peace and order is the most popular program of the local government here with a high satisfaction rating of 92 percent.
The result of the survey, administered on 1,200 respondents from the three legislative districts from July 23 to August 9, 2019, revealed that at least 80 percent of the Dabawenyos were aware of the existing peace and order program of the city.
While several of the respondents were not particularly knowledgeable about the Task Force Davao, Davao City Police Office, and City Transport and Traffic Management Office, it said that the people have “vetted positively” nonetheless due to the peace and order situation that they experience in the city.
In terms of availment, it also added that at least 84 percent of the Dabawenyos surveyed generally benefitted from the peace and order, the highest among the 17 clusters of programs and projects identified in the survey. The programs relating to family welfare and nutrition (82 percent) came second highest in terms of availment, followed by pet vaccination (75 percent), infrastructure (73 percent) and tourism (53 percent).
In terms of satisfaction ratings, programs on family welfare and nutrition, and infrastructure had each scored 95 percent as those projects “are tangible in nature.”
The sectoral projects least known to Dabawenyos were business and promotion (17 percent), agriculture (19 percent), social welfare (21 percent), environment (23 percent) and housing (24 percent). Given the low awareness rate, availment was also low; however, satisfaction rating of those who availed revealed a different story.
It added that a modest satisfaction rating was noted for housing (74 percent), environment and agriculture (72 percent), while low satisfaction for the business and investment promotions (39 percent).
“This incongruity may be due to the nature of the program, most of these programs or projects are long-term in nature, satisfaction derived from availing them need to be postponed and stretched over a recognizable period relative to the lifespan of the program,” it added.
