Major Aristedes Galang, PAF public affairs chief, said a team from the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing (THW) utilized the UH-1 spare parts to fix the seven unserviceable Huey helicopters.
The Huey helicopters are used by the PAF in its primary operations. As of the first quarter of 2019, the PAF was known to operate about 20 to 30 Huey helicopters.
The team from the 205th THW started the restoration of the aircrafts on Monday after inspecting the spare parts last week, Galang said.
The spare parts include main rotor blades, tail rotor blades and tail rotor driveshaft.
With the restoration of the Huey helicopters, Galang said the PAF will be more agile and equipped, thus, making them more efficient in the conduct of their duties.
"The restoration and maintenance of UH-1 aircrafts are vital in performing missions such as Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response, transport, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance activity of the PAF," Galang stressed.
"Other spare parts will be utilized to a readily available UH-1H to maintain and increase higher operational readiness of the PAF," he added.
The said UH-1 spare parts were donated by the Japanese Government through the Japanese Ministry of Defense to the PAF.
