Mayor Sotto marks first 100 days in office

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto marked his first 100 days in office with a series of activities focusing on the priority programs of his administration.

Sotto’s campaign for the mayoral post during the midterm polls was anchored on his “Big V Agenda” on health, housing, education, people empowerment and fight against corruption.
The neophyte mayor on Tuesday morning unveiled renovated walkways near Pag-ibig Building in Barangay, Privato Building in Barangay Oranbo, RM Footbridge in Barangay Pineda, and the elevated walkway along Caruncho Ave. in Barangay San Nicolas. The walkways were previously deemed unsafe and hardly usable to the public.
Sotto then led the distribution of medicines and medical supplies for all of Pasig’s 42 barangay health centers at the City Hall.
“Magbubuhos tayo ng pondo sa ating mga health center para lahat ng equipment, pangangailangan, supplies (We will pour funds to our health centers for the procurement of equipment and medical supplies),” he noted.
The millennial mayor, together with Cong. Roman Romulo led the launching of the Pasig City Social Welfare Assistance Center (SWAC).
Sotto said medical and financial assistance, as well as the needs of persons with disabilities and the senior citizens, may be availed at the SWAC. The one-stop-shop government center is located at the GAD Compound of the City Hall.
He also visited a community of informal settler families (ISFs) in Barangay Santolan at around 1 p.m.
The 30-year-old mayor also announced at the Pasig City Science High School his projects for the education sector, which included the “reinvented and expanded Local School Board.”
Sotto also bared the relaunched of the city’s scholarship program
“I am proud to announce that for the first time in the history of Pasig as a city, we have now a scholarship program that is not named after a politician,” Sotto said.
Formerly known as the BCE Scholarship Program named after former Mayor Robert “Bobby” Eusebio, Sotto signed on September 25 an ordinance renaming the scholarship program to Pasig City Scholarship Program. The measure was authored by Councilor Corazon Raymundo.
Sotto said the city government currently has around 13,000 scholars. By next year, the number of Pasig City scholars will be at a record of 16,000, he added.
The mayor furthered that funding for the scholarship program in 2020 will also increase by around P120 million, making the allocated funds for the city’s scholarship program to around P420 million.
Sotto also forged a partnership with the Green Restorative Actions and Solutions (GRASS) for the urban reforestation of the city.
The mayor, who toppled a political clan that ruled over Pasig for almost three decades, capped the day by delivering his first-ever State of the City Address at the Plaza Bonifacio under the blazing afternoon heat.
