Differently-abled students to get financial assistance from Navotas City government

Navotas City Mayor Tobias “Toby” Tiangco recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with beneficiaries of the scholarship program and their parents and guardians. “Parents and guardians of children and youth who are differently abled need to work harder to care and provide for their families,” Tiangco said. “We want to lift at least a little of their burden and, at the same time, encourage them to keep their children in school and provide them with proper education,” he added. A total of 467 PWD students are the first batch to receive the financial aid from the government. Of these, 324 attend special education (SPED) classes while the remaining 143 are enrolled in regular public schools in the city. These beneficiaries include a college student, 19 high school students, and 447 elementary pupils. Those who wish to apply for a scholarship must be a resident or have parents that are residents and registered voters of Navotas. They are also required to be enrolled in a public school or public SPED school in the city and have a PWD identification card issued and validated by the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO). Their families must also not be a beneficiary of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
