Mayor Zamora 'very confident' San Juan will pass DILG evaluation on road clearing

Mayor Francis Zamora said he is “very confident” that San Juan City will pass the evaluation of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on its order to clear all public roads of obstructions.

The mayor of the smallest city in Metro Manila said San Juan was already “100-percent compliant” with the department’s order, and that they have already submitted their compliance report to the DILG.
“We monitored every single day for the 60-day period so I am very confident that we will pass the evaluation of the DILG,” Zamora said.
The DILG has begun evaluating local governments’ compliance on the clearing operations after its 60-day deadline expired on Sept. 29.
What the city government is doing now, he said, are the enforcement of traffic rules and monitoring of roads within its borders.
Zamora issued Executive Order No. 7 on Aug. 1 suspending pay parking in all of the city’s streets.
The order also prohibited parking on both sides along Club Filipino Avenue, Annapolis Street, Eisenhower Street, Connecticut Street, Missouri Street, Xavier Street, Grant Street, Washington Street, Madison Street, Pinaglabanan Street, Santolan Road, and on “all other streets in the City of San Juan used as pay parking by the City Government ... or by the Barangays.”
This, after the DILG issued the memorandum circular to clear roads of obstruction as ordered by President Duterte during his fourth State of the Nation Address in July to reclaim all public roads from private use.
“What we have to do is to be able to sustain our efforts,” Zamora said. “We were able to do it. But how to sustain it, not just for the 60-day period but eventually for the years to come, that is what’s important.”
The mayor said that the public’s discipline and the proper enforcement of traffic laws were needed to sustain obstruction-free roads.
“Eventually when we implemented in San Juan, they realized that this is for the good of the community, and everyone now has better access to our road networks ... for there were no longer illegally parked vehicles,” Zamora said.
“It’s just the matter of willingly following the guidelines that are given to them,” he added.
