Acer reveals Predator Triton laptops before CES 2019 opening

Published Jan 8, 2019 12:00 am
Coinciding with the upcoming official opening of CES 2019, Acer recently unveiled two new gaming laptops, the Predator Triton 900 and the Predator Triton 500. “We are pushing the envelope on what a gaming notebook can be with designs that offer more uses while still packing in the computing power,” said Jerry Hou, General Manager, Consumer Notebooks, IT Products Business at Acer. “The Predator Triton 900’s one-of-a-kind flipping screen allows for multiple gaming scenarios and better ergonomics, while the Triton 500 offers superb gaming performance in a slimmer, all-metal body for gamers on the go.” Brandishing a massive 17-inch 4K touchscreen display, the Predator Triton 900 is a convertible gaming notebook that features a CNC-machined Ezel Aero Hinge which allows the device's display to flip, extend or recline. Digressing from the traditional laptop design, the trackpad of the Triton 900 is placed beside the keyboard, providing users with the natural hand placement for gaming. In spite of the display's massive size, the laptop boasts a thin profile at 23.75mm. This behemoth of a laptop comes with up to GeForce RTX 1080, bringing NVIDIA's G-SYNC technology to its display, coupled with up to six-core 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB DDR4 RAM, and NVMe PCIe solid state drives (SSDs) in RAID 0 configuration. It also comes with an Xbox wireless receiver that allows users to play games using an Xbox controller. Triton 900's smaller sibling, the Predator Triton 500 carries a 15.6-inch Full HD display with narrow 6.3mm bezels, resulting in an 81% body-to-screen ratio. The 300 nits IPS display boasts 144Hz refresh rates in overdrive at 3ms. Clad in a durable, all-metal chassis, the Triton 500 has a thin 17.9mm profile and weighs 2.1kg. Incorporating NVIDIA's Max-Q design for laptops, the Triton 500 also is powered with up to GeForce RTX 2080 GPU, 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB DDR4 RAM, and NVMe PCIe RAID 0 SSDs. Both the Triton 500 and the Triton 900 feature Acer's 4th Gen AeroBlade 3D metal fans that are designed to increase airflow by 45% and CoolBoost technology that keeps the laptops cool while gaming. The Predator Triton 900 is expected to become available in North America in March with prices starting at $3,999, whereas the Predator Triton 500 is slated for February release with prices starting at $1,799. Exact specifications, prices, and availability will vary by region. Predator Triton 900
