OSCA Parañaque assists 900 indigent seniors in securing benefits

By Dhel Nazario The quarterly pension of over 900 indigent senior citizens was facilitated by the Office of Senior Citizen Affairs (Osca) of Parañaque City in compliance with Republic Act 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizen Act of 2010, to augment their daily subsistence and other medical needs. (Mayor Edwin Olivarez via Facebook / MANILA BULLETIN) (Mayor Edwin Olivarez via Facebook / MANILA BULLETIN) The beneficiaries came from barangays Marcelo Green, Merville, Sun Valley, San Martin de Porres, BF, and Don Bosco, to which they received P6, 000 each for the first up to fourth quarter this year, according to Dante Pacheco, Osca director. On his last term as city’s chief executive, Mayor Olivarez amended the “OSCA Cares Program” to include other factors that will benefit the city’s elderly. The senior cash transfer program will grant them P500 in cash as a birthday gift, as well as a P500 year-end cash gift. Seniors celebrating their birthday from January to June will get their cash gift in June, and the rest will receive theirs in December. On the other hand, the year-end cash gift will be doled out every October. Under the program, the city government allotted privileges as one-year movie pass on Mondays and Tuesdays in Parañaque SM cinemas, free medicine and grocery booklet for discount assistance. The city government also granted specific benefits such as free dentures, dental services, and ophthalmic services and free laboratory examinations and medical check-ups during birth months. Aside from these, the local government also initiates various forums exclusively for senior citizens such as aging gracefully, wellness, health and nutrition, and political and spiritual programs.
