Owners of cars used in Espino ambush known

By Freddie Lazaro SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union - - The owners of the vehicles used in the ambush of former Pangasinan governor Amado Espino Jr. and his bodyguards last Sept. 11 have been identified and were asked to report to the police. (Photo from a concerned citizen via Liezle Inigo / MANILA BULLETIN/ FILE) A Hyundai Elantra and a Ford Everest were found hours after the two-car convoy of Espino was fired upon by gunmen in two vehicles in San Carlos City, Pangasinan. One of Espino’s security, police sergeant Richard Esguerra, was killed on the spot while another one, Agapito Quizon, died in the hospital. Espino himself was wounded together with his security aides Kervin Marfori and police sergeant Jayson Malsi. They are now out from danger. Police found high-powered guns in the Elantra, which was recovered in San Carlos, and the Everest, which was found in Malasiqui town. Brig. Gen. Joel Orduña, Ilocos police chief, identified the original owner of the Elantra as Marivic Villanueva. The car, however, was sold to two other persons before it was acquired by by the present owner Jewel Castro, Orduña said. The Everest is owned by a certain John Paul Regalado, Orduña said. The owners of the vehicles have presented copies of deed of sale and the documents are being verified since the Elantra’s conduction sticker is reportedly fake, according to Orduña.
