The capability and capacity of the Army, Navy and Air Force's newest acquisitions, including the corvette BRP Conrado Yap and amphibious assault vehicles (AAVs), are expected to be tested in the joint military exercise, said Brigadier General Francisco Mendoza, AFP assistant deputy chief of staff for education and training.
"This year's reiteration of the AFP Joint Exercise will help us strengthen our territorial defense capabilities and our conduct of internal security operations," said Mendoza. He represented Major General Erickson Gloria, AFP deputy chief of staff, as guest of honor and speaker during the opening ceremony at AFP Education, Training and Doctrine Command (AFPETDCOM) headquarters.
DAGIT-PA, which stands for "dagat" (sea), langit (sky) and lupa (land), is an AFP-wide exercise geared at leveling up the military's exercises by integrating its special operations forces, cyber group and reservists. Now on its third year, the exercise is from September 16 to 27.
Commodore Adeluis Bordado, commander of the AFPETDCOM and exercise director said this year's exercise will focus on three major missions: command post exercise (CPX), joint interoperability events (JIOE) and cyber defense exercise (CYDEX).
"Dito sa atin sa AFP, we have three major services -- the Army, Air Force and Navy. Para magkaintindihan sa (For them to be able to understand each other in) joint operations or campaign, kailangan i-test natin kung paano sila nag-uusap (we should test how they communicate). Ang pinaka-objective (The primary objective) is to successfully accomplish our given missions," Bordado said.
More than 1,500 soldiers will participate in the DAGIT-PA exercise which includes air/maritime interdiction operation in Palawan; amphibious landing in Zambales; airfield seizure and military operations in urban terrain in Nueva Ecija; and combined arms live-fire exercise in Tarlac.
