CIBAC Partylist representative and Jesus is Lord founder Brother Eddie Villanueva on Tuesday said the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression Equality (SOGIE) Bill was just an imported template from Western countries that disregarded the culture of the Filipino people.

"You have to apply the principles of good governance based sa (on) word of God, you have to apply the culture of the Filipino people,” Villanueva said in an interview with CNN.
The lawmaker also said that there was no need for SOGIE Bill because there were already existing laws that protect the welfare of the LGBT members.
"Lahat ng human rights na gusto ng members ng LGBT, properly provided ng Constitution, Revised Penal Code, Civil Code, Labor Code and other laws. Ang daming laws. Ang problema lang natin 'yong implementation and monitoring,"
(The human rights that the LGBT members are clamoring for already exists in the Constitution, Revise Penal Code, Civil Code, Labor Code, and other laws. We already have a few. The only problem is the implementation and monitoring.)
He added that crafting a preferential law would be “unfair” and go “against the rights of all the other sectors in society”.
Villanueva explained that he was opposing the SOGIE bill because it undermines the role of the parents to the family, threatens academic freedom, and impairs freedom of speech and religion.
"Pag-aralan nating mabuti, wag tayong maging personal, (Let us study it thoroughly first, do not take it personally)” he continued.
However, Villanueva clarified that he supported fighting all kinds of discrimination in all sectors of the society.
The solon also said that he disagreed with a study that said being a transgender was a form of mental illness.
