The Numbeo Crime Index likewise showed a low crime rate in Makati City with 40.52 points which is significantly lower compared to the crime rates in Manila (64.82) and Quezon City (61.19). Mayor Abigail “Abby” Binay attributed the city’s high safety index to the sustained efforts and close coordination of the city government and the police. “We in the city government of Makati are heartened by the city’s upgraded stature among the safest cities in Southeast Asia, as shown by the latest report from Numbeo. It is a validation of our sincere commitment to the continuous improvement of quality of life in the city, through building safe and resilient communities where all citizens are empowered to attain their full potential,” Binay said. Makati maintains peace and order through increased police visibility made possible through additional mobile patrol vehicles provided by the local government. “We regard national government agencies such as the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection as our indispensable partners in keeping Makati safe for residents, the business community and all other stakeholders. As the financial center of the Philippines, we put a premium on safety and security to remain as the premier investment destination where businesses can rapidly and continuously flourish,” the mayor said. The city has also been consistently implementing programs to improve the quality of life of residents and transients, Binay added.
