Under a P62.263-million allocation fund, the 1.8-kilometer Ayaga-Sta.Marcela-Flora-Lasam Road in the municipality of Lasam, Cagayan was concreted to provide an inter-regional link between Cagayan in Region 2 and Apayao in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Villar said.
The concreting project started in February 2018 and was completed in March this year. It involved the construction of drainage system and slope protection works that will help in preventing flooding and maintain soil stability.
Villar furthered that two bridges costing P32 million were also constructed to make the road fully accessible for motorists traveling from both ends.
The project was funded under the 2018 General Appropriations Act and implemented by the DPWH-Cagayan Second District Engineering Office.
Meanwhile, a new multi-purpose building that will serve as venue for senior citizens’ social activities were recently completed in Barangay Bangag, Lal-lo, Cagayan, the agency said.
The Senior Citizens’ Multi-Purpose Building built by DPWH, according to Villar, is part of the agency’s goal to provide infrastructure for all, including the senior citizens.
The two-storey building was completed in May this year under a P9.87-million budget from the CY 2018 Infrastructure Program. It features an auditorium, lounge area, office room, first aid room, person with disability-friendly ramps, and lobby as well as kitchen, electrical and maintenance room, and toilet and bath.
The 403-square meter building will serve as a venue for activities for the elderly such as outreach programs and medical missions. It is strategically situated on an elevated area of Barangay Bangag to ensure accessibility and safety of the structure from flooding.
It was implemented by the DPWH Cagayan First District Engineering Office.
