Manila Mayor Isko Moreno led the opening of Alvarado Extension in Tondo, Manila, which used to be an area closed to public and merely relegated to private use.
The street lights and asphalting were done along Alvarado Extension road to make it passable to pedestrians and motorists.
The mayor said the road had been closed by a private company for the past several years, thus inconveniencing the public, especially students from the Philippine Cultural High School and Chiang Kai Shek, which cater mostly to Chinese-Filipino community members.
He said the students needed to walk via a longer route when going to and from their school, along with residents in the areas of P. Algue and Abad Santos Streets, among others.
