Marikina Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said the sisterhood of the cities of Davao and Marikina paved the way for the opening of the Marikina store located at the Pasalubong Center in Barangay 34-D, Davao.
“This is the only non-Davao store at their Pasalubong Center. Davao’s warm welcome to Marikina-made products is a proof of the stronger ties deeper friendship between our cities,” he said.
“The shoes being sold there are from various shoemakers in Marikina. These shoes are high-quality shoes which are fashionable at the same time,” he added.
According to Teodoro, the store showcase the ingenuity and craftsmanship of Marikina residents and their shoe manufacturers.
He also expressed optimism that the opening of the Marikina store will boost the shoe industry.
During the opening, members of the Marikina-based Philippine Footwear Federation, Inc. (PFFI), headed by Chairman Antonio “Tony” Andres, were present.
Seventy one-year-old Orlando “Tatay Orly” Santos, who made the shoes of President Duterte, was also at the opening. He is a resident of Barangay Sto. Nino, Marikina.
Acting Davao Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte lauded the efforts being taken by the Marikina City government to empower the country’s shoe industry.
He also urged Davao and other local governments to imitate the efforts of Marikina in promoting their local products.
“I truly believe that Filipinos can really compete in the national and international arenas. So, sana, tulungan natin ma-improve pa natin at mapalakas ang mga ginagawa natin as Filipinos,” Duterte said.
Teodoro, meanwhile, invited Davao City to also open a store in Marikina to showcase its local products.
He also gave Duterte a pair of black leather shoes made in Marikina.
