BAGUIO CITY – While enjoying a walk on the pedestrianized Session Road, local residents and tourists will be given the opportunity to sample fruits coming from Mindanao that will be sold in the First MindFruits Festival Sunday, August 25, in the nation’s summer capital.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed Executive Order No.066, allowing the staging of the Minda Fruits Festival at Session Road, during the one-lane pedetrianization of the uphill portion of Session Road Sunday.
He said MindaFruits project was an agricultural strategy of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) that aims to sell fruits that are abundant in Mindanao, such as durian, marang, lansones, pomelo, mangostene, rambutan, and pineapple, at a lower cost in Baguio City.
MinDA Secretary Manny Piñol arrived Saturday in Baguio City with truckloads of fresh Mindanao fruits to be sold during the closure of Session Road on Sunday.
Piñol said the fruits will be sold at a much cheaper price by selected local vendors, who will have the opportunity to form business ventures with fruit farmers from Mindanao.
He said fruits in Mindanao were currently in abundance because it was the fruiting season, and the prices of fruits have dropped by 50 percent as of last month.
“Today, MinDA has assumed the role as the marketing promotions agency for products from Southern Mindanao,” Piñol said.
Magalong said the selling of fruits will be a trial activity for the promenaders while the city government lines up other activities the public can enjoy. “This is a one-day opportunity for everyone to taste fresh fruits all the way from Mindanao at a very affordable price.”
Every Sunday, starting last August 18, one lane of Session Road, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., as part of the pedestrianization campaign of the city government.
