Duterte blames 'yellow' group for sexist reputation

To show how he respects women, Duterte even cited the incident when he offered himself in exchange of a woman held hostage by criminal elements when he was still mayor of Davao City. He said people are not allowed to discriminate others based on sex, religion or tribe. "Mayor pa ako. May anti-discrimination na ako sa Davao ," he said. The President has been criticized by some women's groups for his crass rape jokes and misogynist remarks in public events. Duterte however defended his controversial comments, saying women were depriving him of his freedom of expression. Malacañang earlier said President Duterte is never “bastos” or rude and will be first to obey the new Safe Spaces Act. Panelo said the President respects women and would not deliberately offend them. Panelo claimed that if some people think the President has violated the new law, they could take Duterte to court after his presidency.
