P6.8-M worth of 'shabu' seized in Negros Oriental port

By Glazyl Masculino BACOLOD CITY - Local authorities from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine Coast Guard, and Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo) seized a kilo of suspected shabu worth P6.8 million at Sibulan port in Negros Oriental Monday.

(Photos courtesy of PCG-Negros Oriental / MANILA BULLETIN) PCG-Negros Oriental head Commander Ludovico Librilla Jr., said PDEA asked for their assistance after receiving a report about a vehicle carrying illegal drugs via a roll on roll off (Roro) vessel bound to Dumaguete City from Cebu. When the vessel arrived, Coast Guard personnel immediately conducted a random inspection at the cargo deck and spotted a red car. Authorities then found the illegal drugs wrapped in plastic inside the bag of one of the four persons on board the said vehicle. PDEA and police arrested Tim Bernard Las Piñas, 25, and Lehsa Taganile, 23, both residents of Dumaguete City; Ellery Jude Alabanzas, 23, of Canlaon City; and Kathleen Caryl Tulabing, 23, of Sibulan town. Librilla said the four suspects were believed to distribute the contraband in the province. Authorities have yet to determine the source of illegal drugs. Drug charges are being readied against the suspects, who denied the allegations against them, claiming they didn’t know where the drugs came from.
