Three major programs in the plan were discussed, namely Cultural Promotion and Education, Art Development, and Heritage Conservation.
The usual commemorative events held for historical persons and places in the city, such as Dr. Pio Valenzuela and its transition from Polo, a small town in Bulacan, to the modern city that it is today, fall under the Cultural Promotion and Education program.
Valenzuela's traditional festivities and national events, support to barangay cultural activities, and cultural exchange also fall under this area.
Meanwhile, some of the activities under the Art Development program include creative writing, arts workshops, theater production, support to the Valenzuela City Youth Orchestra and Violin Ensemble, culture-and-arts tours, and the acquisition of public art and significant artifacts.
For Heritage Conservation, the approved projects focused on the start of conservation studies on Valenzuela heritage sites and landmarks, such as the Arkong Bato and Dr. Pio Valenzuela's house, documentation of cultural properties, and installation of historical markers.
Conservation efforts for the Arkong Bato started October last year.
The approved plan will be forwarded to the Valenzuela City Budget Office for final review and to the Valenzuela City Planning and Development Office for consideration by the Valenzuela City Development Council into the city's 2020 Annual Development Plan.
Meanwhile, the city's final 2020 budget for its culture and art projects will be subject to the recommendation of its Valenzuela City Local Finance Council, which will be reflected in the city's 2020 Annual Investment Plan, and to the enactment by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of the Annual Appropriation Ordinance.
The meeting was attended by the LCAC Action Officer Jonathan Balsamo, who also heads the Valenzuela City Cultural and Tourism Development Office, officials from the SP Committee on Culture and the Arts, the Valenzuela City Budget Office, the Valenzuela City Planning and Development Office, and other representatives of the local cultural sector and academe.
