The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned the public against the purchase and use of five "unnotified" cosmetic products as the agency cannot guarantee their quality and safety.
(FDA / MANILA BULLETIN)
The FDA, in its advisory no. 2019-204, said the products do not have a Certificate of Product Registration.
The agency identified the "unnotified" products as Popa Smooth International with Vitamin E Powder Foundation with UVA & UVB Protection, Chroma Celloshine Treatment Choco Brown, Peiyen Lips Tint the Lure of Lip (01), Wow Long Lasting Lip Color (Lovely Peach), and Excek Paris Long Lasting 24 Hours.
"The use of such violative products may pose health risks to consumers," the FDA warned.
"Potential hazards may come from ingredients that are not allowed to be part of a cosmetic product such as Rhodamine B or from contamination of heavy metals such as Lead (Pb) especially in lip cosmetic products," it added.
The FDA has warned concerned establishments not to distribute the said products until they have been issued the appropriate authorization.
"Moreover, the public is advised to always check if a cosmetic product is notified with the FDA. The FDA website (www.fda.gov.ph) has a Search feature which may be used by typing the name of the product before purchasing," the agency said.
The FDA also encouraged the public to report any sale or distribution of unnotified cosmetic products through its online reporting facility which is accessible at www.fda.gov.ph/ereport.
