By Chito Chavez On orders of Mayor Joy Belmonte, the city government on Tuesday started the dismantling of business stalls inside the Quezon Memorial Circle. Last weekend, Belmonte personally met with the stall owners inside the park to inform them that their business permits have expired. To their credit, the vendors and stall owners peacefully abided by Belmonte’s order. At the same time, the Quezon City Task Force for Transport and Traffic Management (QCTTM) plans to have a dialogue with the city’s 142 barangay chairpersons in a bid to end the city’s traffic and illegal obstruction woes. QCTTM head Ariel Inton cited the need to coordinate with the barangay officials to thresh out relevant issues concerning the problems in the proliferation of illegal terminals in the city. The intention of the meeting Inton stressed will also tackle viable disciplinary schemes on commuters to ease the worsening traffic situation in the city. At present, Inton said the task force has prioritized the dismantling of illegal tricycle and jeepney terminals mostly those occupying public properties including sidewalks. Maintaining there should be a sense of balance as ordered by Belmonte, Inton said the planned dialogue will include transport group leaders to determine the most viable areas where the terminals can be put in place.
