Let go and let God

GENTLE BREEZE By NELLY FAVIS VILLAFUERTE   Nelly Favis Villafuerte Nelly Favis Villafuerte The phrase “Let go and let God” adopted by Alcoholics Anonymous should be ingrained in our hearts and in our minds.  The phrase applies to all.  Not only to alcoholics. The phrase means that small and big problems have one common successful solution.  And that is simply to trust in God.  We can never out-plan, out-talk, out-solve, out-think, and out-do our omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent God.  Our human capabilities are limited.  God’s capabilities are limitless, absolute, matchless, and endless.  Clearly capsulized in the words of the Holy Bible that “nothing is impossible with God.” *           *           * Our life will definitely be less complicated if we just trust our Lord God in everything.  And realize too that God is also in control of everything.  Unfortunately, the vision of many of us to the role of our Lord God in our life is blurred.  Especially so if our life is not wrapped in pretty packages.  Many of us are unhappy in our present situation.  We look at other people’s lives and envy what they have.  Many of us want to be in another person’s job, in another marriage, in another home, and in another country.  This feeling of discontentment in turn influences our attitude in life.  Many of us are so unhappy in our current status – especially when a crisis in our life pops out of nowhere.  Then we question our suffering and cry out:  “Why, Lord?” *           *           * The Holy Bible is replete with stories of people who had astounding faith in the power if our Lord God.  Their unwavering faith and trust in the Lord paid off.  To name some: Abraham, Moses, David, Daniel, Nehemiah, Esther, Hannah, and many others.  Inspiring accounts in the Holy Bible about their faith in our Lord God are read and reread  by thousands and millions of people around the world who never doubt about the authenticity of the Holy Bible. *           *           * Let me just share with you a story that happened during our contemporary times to illustrate how our Lord God works in our lives.  Sometime ago, an insurance company founder and executive was so engrossed in his business that he practically spent day and night, including Sundays, working.  Before his 25th birthday, however, he was in debt for tens of thousands of dollars.  Ironically, this happened when this American insurance executive was working 100 hours a week in his office.  Then this American became a Bible-believing Christian and gave his life to Jesus Christ.  Despite the fact that he spent fewer hours in office, he was able to pay the money he owed to other people.  What did this American do?  In his own words, “I put God first in my life.  The more time and money I gave Him, the more He gave me.  Now, I spend time every day reading the Bible, and praying that God will always guide me.  I have given God my business and any problem that comes.  Such people might say it is unbelievable, but it is true – I never worry any more.” The American later died of heart attack without warning one Saturday afternoon in 1979.  His 40-year-old widow was left with seven children.  How did the widow take the sudden death of her husband?  In her own words:  “Of course, there is still the pain of separation which death always brings.  But I can honestly say that God’s love, care, and protection have been very real to me and my children.  He gave us the power to cope successfully with even the most difficult of situations. “God’s love and comfort have continued to surround me, even in the further suffering I have experienced recently.  Two years ago, I learned personally what it was to have a mother’s broken heart when my precious 22-year-old son David was killed in a tragic automobile accident. Once again, I have realized that the only strength for living is through the Lord. “We all have trials and difficulties at one time or another; and you, too, can experience the same power I have found.  I want to tell you how you can find the power for living which millions of people all over the world are now experiencing.  In every case, this began through hearing the message of the Scriptures.” *           *           * This is the story of Mr. and Mrs. S. de Moss, the God-fearing couple (in the early 90s) who found out that their power for living came from a personal relationship with God.  After the death of Arthur S. de Moss, his widow was touched  by the Lord to spend millions of dollars distributing worldwide for free a book entitled Power for Living. *           *           * Yes, we must have complete faith and trust in our Lord God.  A person who trusts Him 99.99 percent and reserves 0.01 percent of his trust for other intercessory entitles or relies on good works as a passport to having a personal relationship with our Lord God is not complying with the repeated biblical passages on trusting our Lord God with all our hearts, with all our minds, and with all our souls. *           *           * May this story about the background of the book Power For Living lift up your spirits when you are spiritually drained.  May it increase your faith and trust in our sovereign God.  May it inspire you to spare time to read the Holy Bible and know more about our living and caring God.  May it encourage you to believe with all your hearts and minds that “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth” (Psalm 145:18). *           *           * This column continues to give out copies of the Holy Bible for free to those who cannot afford to buy their own copies. If interested, please send your letter-request to Ms. Nelly Favis Villafuerte, 5233 Fahrenheit St., Palanan, Makati City. Kindly mention if it is the Tagalog, English, Cebuano, or Ilocano Bible that is preferred.   Be joyful and forgiving! (Comments may be sent to Ms. Villafuerte’s email: [email protected].)
