TACLOBAN CITY – A tornado damaged at least 11 houses and part of the public market in Lavezares town, Northern Samar last Saturday.

Maj. Joseph Quelitano, Lavezares police chief, the twister damaged three houses in Libas, five in Cataogan, and three in San Miguel, all coastal villages.
Part of the roof of the market was shorn off, Quelitano said.
The town was experiencing a heavy downpour when the tornado suddenly formed around 9:30 a.m.
No casualty was reported.
Hours after the tornado, Lavezares was struck by a magnitude 4.8 earthquake at 5:10 am Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs traced the earthquake’s epicenter 21 kilometers northwest of Pambujan town.
The quake had a depth of 15 km, with the following intensities:
Intensity IV- Pambujan, Catarman, Laoang, San Roque, Mondragon, Northern Samar
Intensity III- Palapag, Biri, Mapanas, San Jose, Gamay, Lavezares, Las Navas,
San Isidro, Rosario, Victoria, Lope de Vega, Allen, Lapinig, Silvino Lobos, Northern Samar; San Policarpo, Eastern Samar.
Phivolcs also said the quake registered as Intensity III in Borongan City
At 7:17 am, a magnitude 4.4 quake was felt in Pambujan.
No aftershocks and damage are expected from the tremor.
