A Catholic Church leader said the Filipino youth are looking for role models, individuals to emulate, people to pattern their actions after.

Daet Bishop Rex Andrew Alarcon, the incoming head of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines – Episcopal Commission on Youth said, today’s young generation are looking for a role model, “someone who may not be perfect but someone who strives to be a role model."
"They are looking for someone who will accept them, listen, and guide them,” Alarcon said in his homily during the just concluded Philippine Conference on New Evangelization at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
“In communities, schools, youth groups, and parishes, young people are so happy when they meet role models who can serve as their moral witnesses,” Alarcon added in a CBCP News post.
In line with the observance of the Year of the Youth, the theme for the sixth PCNE was “Filipino Youth Walking with Jesus.” More than 5,000 local and foreign participants joined the three-day event.
“Many Filipino youth are looking for role models to help them in their spiritual growth. We are all invited to walk with the youth. To love is to walk with each other, to accompany each other,” Alarcon said.
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle introduced PCNE in 2013 as a local response to the call for new evangelization as part of the preparations for the 500th year celebration of Christianity in the country in 2021.
