By Gabriela Baron President Rodrigo Duterte's State of the Nation Address lasted for 94 minutes and among topics covered were corruption, the death penalty, illegal drugs, postponement of 2020 May elections, Boracay, Bangsamoro Basic Law, the establishment of Department of OFW, and West Philippine Sea. Pres. Rodrigo Duterte (YOUTUBE) On his 3rd year as president: "It is not the eagle in the fight, but the fight in the eagle that matters." After naming the 5 government agencies that need improvement, Duterte tells, "We in the government talk too much, act too little and too slow. "Long in rhetoric, short in accomplishment." To Filipinos: "Ang problema kasi ng Pilipino, sinasabi ko na sa inyo, be assertive. Pag ikaw o kayo hiningan, more than the required payment, at humingi pa sayo, mag-iskandalo kayo. Make a scene. Sampalin mo yan." Duterte added: "If you extort money from me, I will slap you. At sampalin talaga ninyo. Di baleng magkaaway, I will defend you." He said that he already identified the 'enemy': "I have met the enemy face to face. And sadly, the enemy is us. We are our own tormentors, we are our own demons." Duterte reiterated that there is no corruption: "There is no corruption at all. I guarantee you, upon the grave of my father." On god: "I do not believe in god. I am a believer of a universal mind. A god so perfect would not create hell. What kind of god is that?” On West Philippine Sea, Duterte said that China recognizes traditional fishing rights: "That law is a human law." But insisted that: "The West Philippine Sea is ours. No ifs and buts." Duterte once said that he is unhappy and tired: “If you think you can run the country better than the elected one, then go ahead.” Duterte before he ended his speech: "I cannot pass the blame on anybody, it's on me. We cannot change the past, but we will not squander the future."
