Caraga intensifies war on drugs

Gilberto DC Cruz ordered all field unit commanders to step up their war on drugs. To make Caraga a “drug free” region in the Southern Philippines, the region’s top cop ordered all regional, provincial, and city mobile force commanders, provincial, and city directors as well as municipal chiefs of police to redouble their effort in following the program of President Duterte on “full enforcement against illegal drugs.” “No one is above the law and we must follow what our President said,” Brig. Gen. Cruz said, in his directive to all field commanders during a command conference here yesterday. He said all suspects during illegal drug operations must be immediately “put behind bars.” All law enforcement agencies and local government units are now supporting the PRO 13’s war on drugs, he said. From Sept. 11, 2018 to July 21, 2019, a total of 628 drug suspects were already arrested during the 637 different anti-illegal drug operations in the five provinces and six cities in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region. During the same period, a total of P1,042,750,000.00 billion worth of floating cocaine were seized in the sea lines of Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands while a total of P10,085,755.00 worth of suspected shabu and P3,812.833.75 worth of marijuana were seized by various units of PRO 13. About 22 drug suspects were also killed during illegal drug operations and 195 drug suspects also voluntarily surrendered to different police units in the region during the same period. For the past three years, crime volume in this region has been down due to the continuing drive against illegal drugs, Cruz added.
