Man shot dead in Caloocan  An unidentified man was found dead with several gunshot wounds on his body at Barangay 177 in Caloocan City Thursday evening. The man was found wearing a yellow shirt and dark blue jogging pants. According to a report, a concerned citizen told barangay officials about a dead man lying on the pavement along Alma Jose Street in Caloocan City. After verification, the barangay officials reported the incident to the Caloocan City Police Station Investigation Unit North Extension Office and the Police Community Precinct-5. The body was brought to a Northern Police District-accredited morgue for autopsy examination. Investigation is ongoing for the identification of the victim and the gunman. (Minka Tiangco) 7 suspects, 1 minor, arrested for possession of drugs and firearm in Caloocan Eight suspects, including a minor, were nabbed by police for illegal possession of drugs and a gun at Barangay 12 in Caloocan City Friday morning. Arrested were Rovick Martinez, 18; Ruby Villota, 37; Reniel Rotap, 24; Raymond Caoc, 18; John Villota, 18; John Michael De Jesus, 22; Ryan Oveljas, 35; and a 15-year-old boy only identified as "John Calvin." A search warrant for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act was issued against Martinez, police said. Elements of the Northern Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Police Community Precinct-2 led the operation at about 6 a.m. A caliber .38 firearm loaded with five live ammunition was recovered from Martinez. Meanwhile, 21 sachets of suspected shabu, a sachet of suspected marijuana, and assorted drug paraphernalia were retrieved from the other suspects. The seized pieces of evidence were brought to the Caloocan City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit for proper disposition. The rescued minor was brought to the Caloocan City Social Welfare and Development for intervention. Martinez will be facing charges for violation kf R.A. 10591 while the six other arrested suspects will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Minka Tiangco) Motorcycle rider injured in Las Piñas road accident A rider was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a passing Ford Everest and was being driven by a Chinese national Thursday afternoon in Las Piñas City. The victim identified as Ricardo Hibanada was rushed at the Perpetual Help Medical Hospital for treatment due to multiple bruises and contusions he suffered all over his body. The suspect who is now under the custody of the Las Piñas City Traffic Bureau and will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting to serious physical injury was identified as Hong Sun. Investigation showed the incident happened at about 2:00 p.m. along the stretch of Padre Diego Cera Avenue in front of Paseo Verde Condominium, Barangay Pulanglupa I, Las Piñas City. The police said that prior to the incident, the victim who was on board his Yamaha Mio motorcycle with plate number BFX-5266 was cruising at the said given place when hit by the Ford Everest with conduction sticker of COP)-046. The police said that the suspect admitted that he was driving fast and was not able to control his wheel and hit the victim. (Jean Fernando)
