LTO team chief killed, 2 others wounded in Surigao City ambush

RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – A chief of the enforcement team of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) was killed while two others were wounded when unidentified armed men waylaid them along Dacuman area, Barangay Ipil, Surigao City on Wednesday. (Flickr / MANILA BULLETIN) (Flickr / MANILA BULLETIN) Report reaching the regional command of Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) from Surigao del Norte Police provincial Office (PPO) said the three LTO officers, led by their team leader Felixberto Loayon, had just finished conducting LTO checkpoint operations against colorum vehicles along Dacuman area when unidentified gunmen peppered them with bullets at around 8 a.m. Loayon, a resident of Payawan 1, Barangay Luna, Surigao City, was hit on the head which resulted in his instantaneous death. The wounded LTO personnel who were immediately brought to Surigao City Medical Center for treatment were Rene O. Sinangute and Frede V. Frediewabina. The undetermined number of perpetrators immediately fled. Hot pursuit operation is being conducted by the personnel of Surigao City Police Station against the fleeing suspects while the command group of Surigao del Norte PPO has directed all adjacent Municipal Police Stations (MPSs) to conduct checkpoints. “The incident was believed to be job-related in relation to our all-out drive against colorum vehicles in Caraga region,” an official of the Department of Transportation Caraga regional office said.
