AFP, LRTA ink pact to give free train rides to soldiers

By Martin Sadongdong The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the LRT Authority (LRTA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Monday at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City to provide free train rides to all active military personnel in all stations of the Light Rail Transit (LRT)-2. "The morale of soldiers are getting high with all of these efforts, knowing that our service are truly appreciated by our brother Filipinos," Datuin said in his speech. Under the MOA, the LRTA shall allow active military personnel to ride LRT-2 stations free of charge provided that they present officially-issued AFP IDs as access pass. The LRTA shall also provide AFP with available posting pass for information materials such as posters, tarpaulins and videos in areas and spaces in LRT-2 stations and/or facilities that are designated or considered for public relations purposes. In return, the AFP shall provide media mileage to the LRTA management thru a once a week guesting in its Virtual RTV and radio station DZDD; airing of LRTA management news and press releases over VRTV and DZDD; website posting for sample posting of LRT logo in partnership with CRSAFP; and feature on Ang Tala magazine "to further promote to the public the LRTA's management initiative." Information materials on crime prevention, safety tips and military programs shall also be provided by the AFP to LRTA to be viewed by riding public in LRT trains and stations." Further, the AFP shall also provide ambulance with medical teams to LRTA for assistance during emergency, crisis situation, medical programs or medical missions upon prior or advance coordination. The MOA will be valid for three years. "Ito ang tribute ng ating pamahalaan sa ating mga sundalo. Kami po sa LRTA ay nagagalak na ito ay gawin at naging part na rin ng aming corporate social responsibility," said LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya.
