The 21 barangays were among the 349 barangays in Western Visayas which were recently declared drug-free during the deliberation headed by PDEA -6 officer-in-charge Alex Tablate, chairman of the Oversight Committee. Together with its other members, the police represented by Police Colonel Harold Tuzon, deputy regional director for operations of Police Regional Office (PRO)-7, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) represented by Mr. Patrick Jess Jacildo, and the Department of Health (DOH) represented by senior health officer John Lapascua. PDEA Negros Occidental chief Jose Tomabini said 23 barangays in the province applied for drug clearing, but Barangay Puey in Sagay City and Barangay 19 in Victorias City were delisted because there are still some drug personalities there. Tomabini said the next deliberation for the third quarter will be in September. More than 2,300 barangays out of 4,051 have already been officially declared unaffected from illegal drugs in the whole region. Almost 40 barangays in the province were already cleared from illegal drugs since January this year. These villages will still be monitored. “They will be given 30 days to correct it, in case we found out the existence of drugs in their village, if not, we will be lifting their drug-cleared status,” Tomabini said. PDEA hopes to rid all barangays in the region of drugs on or before 2022.
