5 members of gun-for-hire group arrested in Caloocan
Five alleged members of a gun-for-hire group, who are tagged in the killing of a businessman in an apparent “crime of passion,” were arrested in Caloocan City Saturday.
Police Colonel Noel Flores, Caloocan police chief, identified the victim as Eugene Borlaza, 38, resident of Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan.
Arrested were Alexander Fernandez, alias “Tatay,” 60, the handler; Randy Vicente, 42, the gunman; Dexter Cariliman, 48, the back-up driver; Jandrex Paguyanan, alias “Tisoy,” 22, the main driver; and Jason Villamor, alias “Regie,” 31; all residents of Caloocan.
The suspects are said to be behind the killing of Eugene Borlaza, 38, resident of Barangay 176, Caloocan on Friday night.
Paguyanan said his uncle, who is working in Saudi Arabia, ordered him to kill Borlaza, who is reportedly the boyfriend of his former wife, in exchange for P15,000. However, the suspects were arrested before even receiving the reward money.
In a press conference on Sunday, Major General Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) director, said elements of the Caloocan City Police Station and Police Community Precinct-3 first arrested Paguyanan at about 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Villamor, Paguyanan’s cousin and the group’s alleged “surveillance man,” was collared at Barangay 176, Caloocan. Villamor then disclosed to the police that the three remaining suspects were hiding at Barangay 178, Caloocan City.
However, Villamor denied involvement in the crime. He told the media that his uncle asked their family group chat for the address of the victim but he refused to answer, which led his uncle to turn to Paguyanan for help.
Retrieved from the suspects were two caliber .45 firearms, a 9mm pistol, two caliber .38 guns, a caliber .22 rifle, three gun replicas, two gun magazine replicas, two motorcycles, and seven mobile phones.
The police are now preparing murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against the suspects. (Minka Tiangco)
