Imus to pay tribute to best student achievers

By Anthony Giron IMUS CITY, Cavite – The city government will honor this week 240 students who excelled in academics during the school year 2018-2019. They will also receive a total of P1,207,000 in cash for their exemplary performance. City Information and Tourism Officer Edgardo Jay Saquilayan said that the students will be feted in a simple ceremony during Recognition Day on Sunday, June 30, the city's seventh anniversary. Saquilayan said the honorees are 158 summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude Bachelor of Science (B.S.) graduates, 49 valedictorians from elementary and senior high schools and 43 college graduates who passed licensure examinations this year. The ceremony will be held at the Imus Plaza Sports Complex. "The ceremonies are the city government's salute and one of the means of saying thank you to all student-residents who did the best in 2019." said Saquilayan. "All these students have strive to attain the honors that made their parents and relatives and the city proud," he said. The event will be attended by Mayor Emnanuel Leonardo Maliksi, Third District (Imus) Representative Alex L. Advincula, Vice Mayor Arnel M. Cantimbuhan and Department of Education (DepEd) officials led by Hermogenes N. Panganiban and Gallileo L. Go and the city councilors. The honorees included Ulahmaria Jesusa Lim Urrubio, a law student from the San Beda University (SBU) and resident of Barangay Palico, this year's bar examination passer; and Mark Rieson P. Riomero, a student from De La Salle University-Dasmarinas and of Malagasang I-B and Miguel Lorenzo O, Mendoza, a student from University of Perpetual Help System-Delta and of Medicion II-C. both physician licensure examination passers. The year's board passers and the "Latin Honorees" will receive P5,000 each and P4,000 each will be given to elementary and senior high school valedictorians, according to Saquilayan. Saquilayan said the officials will also honor the top 10 company and business establishment and real property taxpayers on July 5. The city will also hold the Mega Job Fair, this year's biggest job hiring opportunity in the area, on July 12. The city anniversary celebration started with activities on June 19 or a week after the National Flag Days and Independence Day. The display of more than 3,000 Philippines flags during the twin events has been extended for the city anniversary celebration. Imus, known as the "Flag Capital of the Philippines," became a city on June 30, 2012.
