NPA commander, wife, 2 political officers yield to Army in Surigao

CAMP BANCASI, Butuan City – The peace and development efforts of the Army’s 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division (4th ID) in Northeastern and Northern Mindanao regions continued to gain headway as another Communist New People's Army (NPA) commander, accompanied by his wife and two other underground movement officers surrendered to the military.

Capt. Regie H. Go, chief of Public Affairs Office (PAO) of the Fourth Infantry Division (4th ID), said that Roel A. Borimbao, alias “Ka Noname”, 37, commanding officer of Sandatahang Yunit Pampropaganda 16 B-1 (SYP16 B-1), Guerilla Front 16 (GF16) of the CPP-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) operating in Surigao City, San Francisco, Taganaan and Sison, all of Surigao del Norte, surrendered to the government.
He gave himself up together with his wife, a certain “Ka Wella”, whose name was withheld for her safety and security.
The 21-year old amazon was allegedly a political instructor of SYP16 B-1, GF16, NEMRC.
Also surrendering with them were a certain Ka RD”, 35, also political Instructor of SYP B-2, GF16 NEMRC, and a certain “Ka Mark”, 27, assistant team leader, Squad Dos, SYP16 B-1, GF16, NEMRC.
During surrender rites, they also turned in two M14 Rifles, one M4-CiS rifle, one AR15 M16A1 rifle, four M14 magazines, two M16 short magazines, 2 anti-personnel mines, one hundred eleven 5.56mm live ammunitions and sixty four 7.62mm live ammunitions and underground movement propaganda documents, Go said.
The 4th ID PAO chief said Borimbao was in charge in the NPA's military works like tactical offensive and terroristic attacks on civilian properties.
His wife, as a political instructor (PI), was in charge of all political works to include organizing the far flung communities so they will have the material, financial, and moral support needed to advance their armed struggle.
The PI is also in charge of recruiting new members.
In the initial tactical investigation, Go said that Ka Noname disclosed that their organization was already falling apart because of the losing support of the masses and chaos within the organization.
“They (surrenderers) wanted already to live a peaceful life and be productive in their respective community,” said Go.
