PDEA, QC gov't inaugurate 'Sagip Batang Solvent' Reformation Center in Novaliches

The reformation center is an initiative program of PDEA to keep children off the streets and away from being involved in illegal drugs. It has bedrooms, mess hall, playground, library, music room, training room, and security and staff making it more conducive to learning. (MARK BALMORES / MANILA BULLETIN) Retired Bishop Antonio Tobias and representatives from non-government organizations (NGOs) also graced the event. “Sagip Batang Solvent” Reformation Center is an initiative program of PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino aimed in keeping the children off the streets and away from being involved in illegal drug activities and drug use. The center has bedrooms, mess hall, kitchen, comfort rooms, receiving and entertainment room, study room, library, multi-purpose hall, music room, training room, garden, playground, security and staff making it more conducive to learning and values formation. Aquino said the reformation facility can accommodate up to 60 reach-out clients. The goal of Project Sagip Batang Solvent is to provide reformative care and reintegrated interventions like education, counselling, values formation, talent and skills development, livelihood, and entrepreneurship training to youth hooked on inhaling solvent. The reformation center was established through a Memorandum of Understanding entered into by PDEA in its Project “Sagip Batang Solvent” and the Quezon City government on March 25, 2019 in Clemente Subdivision, Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches Quezon City. “As PDEA’s pilot reformation center, this will serve as the model facility as we aimed to established reformation centers in different cities and municipalities nationwide,” Aquino said. PDEA conducted PSBS reach-out campaign under Oplan “Sagip Batang Solvent” that started on June 13, 2019 in Barangay San Agustin and Barangay Nova Proper, Novaliches, Quezon City and ended on June 17, 2019 in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City. Currently, the facility has 28 reached-out clients, 16 females and 12 males, aged 16 years old as the oldest and 11 as the youngest who were identified as solvent users and have undergone the assessment process.
