ILIGAN CITY — Barangay San Miguel Chairman Joel Jumawan surrendered to authorities upon the serving of a warrant for his arrest at the barangay hall, following the filing of a rape case against him on Wednesday.
Joel Jumawan
(MANILA BULLETIN) "Pagkadawat sa atong warrant section sa Warrant of Arrest, nag-coordinate sa amo-a, gi-adto sa barangay hall, naa pud si Kapitan didto, gipakita sa iyaha ang Warrant of Arrest, voluntaryo ra sad siyang mikuyog,” Police Captain Eric T. Logronio, Chief, Police Station 1, said of the suspect. (When the warrant section received the Warrant of Arrest, they coordinated with us, went to the barangay hall, presented the Warrant of Arrest to him, and he went with us.) Jumawan however said he only voluntarily surrendered as a “law-abiding citizen” and that he will face the complaint against him to prove his innocence. He further claimed that he was just a “victim of politics.” “Naniniwala ako na the truth will prevail (I believe the truth will prevail),” he said. The complainant in the rape case is a 43-year old woman, married, with three children and employed as a barangay park sweeper who was eventually promoted to a utility and radio operator. The alleged rape happened in August 2017. The suspect was brought to court and was committed afterward to Iligan City Jail in barangay Tipanoy.
