Barely a month after the death of his owner, Buboy, the viral dog dubbed as the “Pinoy Hachiko” died on Wednesday after he was allegedly hit by a jeepney Wednesday morning.

According to a Facebook post by Animal Kingdom Foundation, a Tarlac-based non-government organization, initial reports said the dog was run over by a jeepney.

Per the account of one of the teachers, the dog followed the school guard who just finished his shift. Unknowingly, Buboy reached the highway and the vehicle allegedly ran over the dog that just lost its long-time caretaker last May 18.

“Volunteer caregivers, despite the holiday, rushed to the campus to check and found Buboy already lifeless,” the post said.

No details were provided regarding the name of the school as well as the identity of the driver.

Buboy’s story went viral after a post circulated on social media showing him still visiting the classroom of his “best buddy” Carmelito Marcelo, a professor in Mabalacat City College in Pampanga.

The faithful pup has no idea that Marcelo already died due to his illness.

The inseparable duo touched the hearts of netizens online. However today, Independence Day, social media users also mourned for his passing.
