By Genalyn Kabiling Amid accusations of being a misogynist, President Duterte hit back at "man-haters” critical of his remarks about women. President Rodrigo Duterte (JANSEN ROMERO / MANILA BULLETIN) The President has accused these people of “misandry” or hatred of men, insisting there was nothing wrong with him giving compliments to women. "Kasi sabi nila, 'Ito Duterte, misogynist." Why, is it wrong to say: 'Karaming kagagandang babae uy' ,” Duterte said during a television program hosted by pastor Apollo Quiboloy last Saturday. "‘Yung man-hater ‘yan. Misandry... Men-hater. Kasi kayo, alam ko magalit talaga kayo sa mga lalaki ," he added. Duterte also took a swipe at man-haters, saying some were ugly and smell bad. "I've met you... Ang papangit ninyo. Ang babaho pa ng.... The best practice is after eating our snacks, you brush your teeth. ‘Yung iba naman ‘yung… Wind beneath the armpits]," he said. The President has been criticized by concerned sectors for his crass rape jokes and misogynist remarks in public events. Duterte however defended his controversial comments, saying women were depriving him of his freedom of expression. Towards the end of Quiboloy's TV program, the President noticed the pretty women in the audience, saying he was inspired to appear on the show. He said women should be complimented, and that there was nothing wrong with it. "You know, Pastor with such beautiful audience and ladies clapping your hands, who would not be inspired to sit here? Tapos kantahan ka pa. Pagkatapos niyan kain doon. Sarap pa pagkain ," he said. "I mean girls should be beautiful. And you should be complimented. Totoo 'yan. It's not wrong," he said. Duterte aid women should instead give thanks whenever men praise their looks. "And when a guy says to you, 'You're beautiful.' Just say, 'Thank you. You're like our mayor. He also said that,'" he said.
